Rings of Fire: Heat Risks at the 2024 Paris Olympics

Leading athletes are warning that intense heat at the Paris Olympics in July-August 2024 could lead to competitors collapsing and in worst case scenarios dying during the Games.

FrontRunners and BASIS have partnered on a report which features 11 Olympians, including winners of five World Championships and six Olympic medals, alongside climate scientists and leading heat physiologists to unpack the serious threat extreme heat poses for athletes in a new Rings of Fire report.

The report is the second edition, with the original Rings of Fire: How Heat Could Impact the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, preempting the hottest Olympics on record. The Paris Olympics face the threat of a devastating heat spell during high summer. The impact of extreme heat extends beyond athletes to spectators, broadcasters, volunteers, support staff, and construction workers.

The report urges the sporting community to address these concerns and implement changes to ensure athlete safety, well-being, and ability to continue to compete at the highest level.
